It is my pleasure to share with you the annual message of good will and renewed pledge of support to The American Society of Cali from the United States Ambassador, Mr. William Brownfield. (Please see the attached letter received on October 21, 2008).
The Association of American Clubs (AAC)
As reported in a previous newsletter, two years ago we joined the AAC in order to promote relations between our club and the 50 other member clubs around the world.
The Association of American Clubs (AAC) brings together a growing number of American Clubs around the globe to provide an international network of contacts & resources that benefits Clubs on both an organizational and an individual level.
AAC membership benefits each Club by providing an open forum for the exchange of ideas and organizational practices providing a wealth of institutional knowledge. Clubs continually learn from the experiences and practices of other Clubs ways in which they can expand and enhance the overall quality of their own services, identify opportunities for financial growth and highlight methods to increase their profile both locally and internationally.
On the individual level, any member of a participating Club has an increasingly wide network of international connections available to him in his travels. Club Membership in the AAC effectively extends “Guest Member” status to all members of any Club in the AAC community. This enables any individual member to receive all member privileges at participating Clubs such as member discounts to activities and events and access to club facilities.
All current members in good standing in the individual member clubs can attend the activities of the sister AAC Clubs at the discounted member price. Any individual member who wishes to visit one of the participating clubs must simply present a letter of introduction from his home club president attesting to his eligibility.
If you are planning a trip abroad at any time in the future, we urge you to look into visiting a sister club and take advantage of the services they can offer. All you need is an introductory letter from our office that we will gladly supply. We will also introduce you to the officers of the sister club via internet with all the information necessary as to the dates of your stay in their city, hotel, etc.
We invite you to look into the web sites of the list of member clubs we now have. To date there are 50 members worldwide and the number continues to grow:

Recent Events
A group of 33 members enjoyed a pleasant evening of dining pleasure on Thursday evening, September 25th at the Restaurant Petite France. We enjoyed a typical menu from the region of Alsace. We welcome your suggestions for future evenings out. Let us hear from you (See photos).
The American Society held its traditional International Festival and XI Intercolegiate Tournament on Sunday, October 19th at Colegio Bolivar. We are especially grateful for the kind hospitality of the school’s Rector, Mr. Joseph Nagy. We also want to thank the members of the school staff and the select group of companies and institutions that participated in making this event a success. The turnout was once again very impressive. We played host to eighteen area schools with a total attendance of approximately 3,000 people including 1,200 boys and girls ranging from 8 to 12 years old who participated in the sports events, their families and friends along with members and friends of the sponsoring companies and The American Society. We were particularly pleased to have in attendance two young Vallecaucana athletes who were very well received by all, especially the children, for their example of hard work and discipline: Carlos Esteban Pérez, world champion skater who won his award in Gijón, Spain, and Collombia’s Olympic champion, Jackeline Rentería, who won the bronze medal for wrestling in the 55 kg. Category at the recent Olympic games in Beijing, China. The American Society was happy to extend a special recognition to these fine athletes. We also congratulate the winners of the many raffle prizes. Some of the prizes are still at our offices; the winners should contact the office to retrieve them.

Plan Padrino Insa 2008-2009 and Trinity School
We are pleased to tell you that our Plan Padrino Insa 2008-2009 continues to expand. A number of our sponsored children have moved on to pursue higher education in universities and other institutions of higher learning where they are doing very well. The violin orchestra from Trinity School is busily preparing a repertoire of Christmas music and would be very happy to accept invitations to perform at Christmas events at companies or other institutions. Please contact our office if you have any suggestions as to who might be interested in accepting this kind offer.
Thank you once again for your support of Insa and Trinity School. In the next few weeks we will advise you of the dates for a year-end visit to these two schools. We expect the visits to be held in the first week of December.
New Members
We extend a warm welcome to our new members, Ana Maria Ramírez Giraldo, a lawyer and accountant and Francisco Baquero Cañon, Representative of Inversiones Vitello.
Christmas Dinner
The American Society is enthusiastically making plans for our annual Christmas Dinner. We will feature live music and a surprise show that you cannot miss. We look forward to seeing you all there. Please mark your calendar with the date and time: Friday, December 5th starting at 7:30 P.M. at the Dann Carlton Hotel.
The U.S. Elections
The Democratic Party swept the elections in 2008 with the historic election of the first Afro-American as President of the United States, 2008-2012. Enclosed please find some information on our new President, Barack Obama.
I am also including an article that attempts to explain the confusing subject of the Electoral College and how the U.S. President and Vice-President are elected. (Please see attached article)
Cordially,
Richard

The Association of American Clubs actualmente tiene 50 miembros mundialmente y esta creciendo continuamente:

Eventos Recientes
