Cali, July 14, 2010 Dear Members and Friends, On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank those members and friends who have enthusiastically participated in the events and programs of The American Society of Cali during the first half of this year. We promise to continue providing meaningful activities for you during the next semester and invite any comments or suggestions with regard to other enriching activities in which we could participate. We will be happy to develop and promote your ideas. Recent Activities On Saturday, May 22nd we accompanied Ruthy Klahr and our friends from the Jewish Community in the traditional Bingo held in benefit of the Sala Anna Frank. We got together for great Italian cuisine at the Trattoria Faro el Solar in Pance on Thursday, May 27th, where a group of members and friends enjoyed a very pleasant evening of good food and exciting Cuban rhythms. The traditional Las Vegas Night was held at Crown Casinos on Friday, June 11th. There was a great turnout of families and friends for this year’s event. The VIP area was reserved exclusively for The American Society where we enjoyed a great dinner and an exciting show featuring music from the 60’s and 70’s and an open bar. Each invited member or friend received a chit worth $50.000 pesos to use at the gaming tables. In addition, each invited member or guest was given an invitation to come back for lunch on a future date. This year we celebrated the U.S. Independence Day on July 2nd at the Restaurante Las Dos Parrillas where we were received with their customary warm hospitality. The restaurant was reserved exclusively for The American Society. All of us enjoyed a great evening with live music, an excellent cuisine and valuable raffle prizes donated by various sponsors including a beautiful painting done by the owner of the restaurant, German Silva, a round trip ticket to anywhere in the continental United States donated by American Airlines, a set of fine glassware from Cristales Arita, a number of product baskets from Dislicores and dinner invitations courtesy of the restaurants Pacifico and Le Bistro de Paris. You may click on the following web site to view President Obama’s remarks commemorating U.S. Independence Day: Plan Padrino INSA 2010-2011 Sincere thanks to those members and friends who have so generously donated $480.000 pesos or U.S. $250 to sponsor a young student for one school year in the AMSOC program “Plan Padrino INSA 2010-2011”. For those who have not yet made up their minds to support this worthy endeavor, we urge you to do so now. You will be richly rewarded for your participation in a program that forms solid citizens for the future of this country. INSA is located in the barrio Andres Sanin, District of Aguablanca. The Association of American Clubs The Association of American Clubs covers the world! More than 50 clubs around the world offer other members of the association, such as us, their facilities, programs and hospitality when we visit the city in which they are located. Remember, we reciprocate with our fellow members of these clubs in offering our hospitality to them as well. Before you make your final plans to visit one or more of the major cities around the world, contact our office to find out what our sister clubs may have to offer you during your stay in their city. We are all interested in promoting “good relations between the United States and the world”. Click here to see UPDATED information of AAC III Annual Golf Tournament Be sure to join us for the III Annual Golf Tournament and Caribbean Delight on Saturday, July 24th at the at the beautiful Club Campestre Farallones. We will be accompanied by members of the U.S. embassy and a select group of golfers from other clubs in Cali. Our golfing members and friends will have the opportunity to tee-off according to the “carousel” style of play with roughly half the golfers teeing off at 7:30 AM, with foursomes starting on one of each of the 18 holes; a second group of foursomes will tee-off at 12:30 noon in the same manner. Everyone is welcome! The categories are as follows: > Mixed Juniors The donation for golfers is $65.000 which includes inscription, refreshments during the Caribbean Delight, musical entertainment, fabulous raffle prizes and golfing awards. The raffles include one round-trip ticket Bogota-Paris-Bogota on Air France, two (2) round-trip tickets to the Dominican Republic on Copa Airlines/Continental, a set of 4 passenger tires donated by Goodyear de Colombia and other prizes. Starting at 5:00 P.M. we invite all of our members and their families and friends, golfers and non-golfers alike, to participate in our afternoon festivities “Caribbean Delight” including refreshments, live music and exciting raffle prizes donated by our sponsors. If you plan to participate only in the afternoon festivities the donation is $25.000 per person. El jueves veintisiete (27) de mayo nos reunimos en la Trattoria Faro el Solar de Pance, para disfrutar de una agradable menú italiano y música cubana. Crown Casinos nos ofreció una atención especial a los miembros de The American Society Of Cali, familiares y amigos el viernes once (11) de junio, con ocasión de nuestra Noche de Las Vegas.
